The Competitio Authority  -  Organisation

Organisation

Organisation

The organisation chart of the Competition Authority is geared to performance and project management. The organisation chart is based on the following objectives:

  • To ensure a clear overview of certain specified core markets and principal tasks;
  • To make the best possible use of available expertise at any time forthe tasks at hand;
  • To ensure that the Competition Authority and its constituent units work together as a united whole.

The organisation chart (outermost circle) defines ten core markets, which cover all the sectors of the economy. All the tasks of the Competition Authority relating to specific sectors of the economy can be located in the organisation chart (for instance, the food market and oil products fall within the scope of the market for consumer products, supplies etc.). In addition, over 60 market segments have been classified under these core markets. The purpose is to develop and maintain a good perspective and knowledge of the principal markets, which, among other things, will place the Authority in a good position to prioritise and its tasks and focus its work.

The organisation chart also defines the principal tasks (centre circle), which are important to entrust to the specific charge of experts for the purpose of developing an overview and knowledge of the tasks in question.

The experts employed by the Competition Authority carry a specific responsibility for certain markets and assignments. The positioning of each employee in the organisation chart is determined primarily by where his or her knowledge and experience can be put to the best use in the light of the focal points and priorities of the Authority at any time.

This leaves the general management of the Authority at the heart of the chart. The Director reports to the Board of Directors concerning the day-to-day activities of the Authority. The Assistant Director and Head of the Legal Department bear specific responsibility for specialised tasks and assignments of the Authority. The Assistant Director delegates for the Director in his absence.
