Merger of Leitis eignarhaldsfélags ehf. and Eggerts Kristjánssonar hf.

The Competition Authority has been reviewing the acquisition by Leiti Holding Company Ltd. of a 70% shareholding in Eggert Kristjánsson Ltd. The registered purpose of Leiti Holding Company Ltd. is investment and ownership in business operations. Its subsidiaries include Stjarnan ehf. and Sólstjarnan ehf. Stjarnan ehf. operates in the fast-food market and runs 24 restaurants under the Subway brand. Sólstjarnan ehf. is an import and wholesale company and primarily imports raw materials for Stjarnan ehf. for use in the Subway fast-food chain's operations. The registered purpose of Eggert Kristjánsson hf. is the operation of a wholesale, agency and retail business. The company specialises in the import and wholesale of general foodstuffs to retailers.

Following a preliminary investigation and taking into account the information in the case, the Competition Authority is of the opinion that the merger will not have an adverse effect on competition in Iceland. There is therefore no reason to take further action regarding the merger under Article 17 of the Competition Act.
