Purchase of Garðs Apótek ehf. by Lyfja og heilsa hf.

The Competition Authority has been reviewing the acquisition of Garðs Apótek ehf. (Garðs Apótek) by Lyfja og heilsa hf. (Lyf og heilsa). The merger was notified via a so-called extended merger filing on 15 December.

On 20 January 2021, the Competition Authority notified the merger parties that the Authority considered there were grounds for a further investigation into the competitive effects of the merger, pursuant to Article 17(d) of the Competition Act.

Following an investigation into the merger, the Competition Authority concluded that there was no reason for intervention, as the merger's local effects were limited and there were no indications that a dominant position was being created or that the merger otherwise led to significant rotion of competition.
