Merger of ÍSAM and Eggert Kristjánsson

Analysis

The Competition Authority has been reviewing the merger between ÍSAM ehf. and Eggert Kristjánsson ehf. ÍSAM is owned by Kristinn ehf., a privately-owned holding company. ÍSAM is a manufacturing and import company that operates one of the country's largest wholesales, dealing in products including food, golf equipment, nursing supplies and tobacco. The company's food production takes place at its subsidiaries ORA, Frón, Kexsmiðjan and Myllan. The company also owns Fastus ehf., which primarily serves the institutional and catering markets with equipment, machinery and consumables for food production. Eggert Kristjánsson is a wholesaler that imports mainly food products. The Competition Authority's investigation found that there is no reason to believe that the concentration in certain sub-markets within the food production sector could lead to a breach of competition. Following an investigation, the Competition Authority has concluded that there is no reason to take action regarding this merger under Article 17 of the Competition Act No. 44/2005.
