The acquisition by Hlaðbær-Colas Ltd. of all shares in Norðurbiki Ltd.

The Competition Authority has been reviewing the acquisition of Norðurbiki ehf. by Malbikunarstöðin Hlaðbær-Colas hf. Malbikunarstöðin Hlaðbær-Colas is an Icelandic limited company whose main business is the production and sale of asphalt, as well as providing various asphalting services. Norðurbik is an Icelandic private limited company that produces and sells asphalt. The aim of the merger is for Malbikunarstöðin Hlaðbær-Colas to become a competitive player in North Iceland, and the company considers this to be an interesting investment. The acquisition also offers potential for increasing the company's turnover.

Following an investigation and having regard to the evidence, the Competition Authority is of the opinion that the merger does not prevent effective competition and will not result in the creation of a dominant position. Furthermore, it will not otherwise significantly distort competition in the market. Therefore, there are no grounds to take action regarding the merger under Article 17(c) of the Competition Act No. 44/2005.
