The Competition Authority has been reviewing the merger of Ölgerðin Egill Skallagrímsson hf. and Kolefni ehf. Ölgerðin is a century-old company that manufactures, imports, distributes and sells various types of food and drink products at wholesale level. Kolefni is a holding company whose sole purpose is to own the property at Grjóthálsi 7-11 in Reykjavík. This property houses the head office of Ölgerðin. Since the property was built, Ölgerðin has leased it from the company, and therefore there will be no practical change to Ölgerðin's operations as a result of this transaction.
Following an investigation, the supervisory authority has therefore concluded that there is no reason to take action regarding this merger under Article 17 of the Competition Act No. 44/2005, as neither a dominant position is being created nor is an existing one being strengthened. Furthermore, competition is not being distorted in any way in this case.
