The Competition Authority has been considering the acquisition by Árvakur hf. of the radio operations of K100 and Retro 895. Notification of the merger was received by letter dated 7 October 2016, which was accompanied by a merger filing, pursuant to Article 5. para. 17 of the Competition Act no. 44/2005 and Regulation no. 684/2008 on the notification of mergers, as subsequently amended. By letter dated On 12 October 2016, an addendum to the merger notification was received, providing further information about the merger. This is a merger falling under both the merger provisions of the Competition Act and Article 62b of the Broadcasting Act No. 38/2011. Through the acquisition, Árvakur acquires certain equipment, frequency licences and other assets necessary to operate a radio station. Following an investigation and in light of all of the above, it is the conclusion of the Competition Authority that there are no indications that Árvakur's acquisition of the radio operations of K100 and Retro 895 will result in a significant impairment of competition, pluralism or diversity in the markets, such that intervention is necessary. Therefore, there are no grounds to take action regarding the merger.
