Vertical consultation between SORPA bs., Metans hf., N1 hf. and Orkuveita Reykjavíkur on the determination of the retail price of methane gas.

Analysis

The Competition Authority has been examining illegal collusion between SORPA bs., Metan hf., N1 hf. and Orkuveita Reykjavíkur concerning the setting of retail prices for methane gas at N1 hf.'s sales outlets, formerly those of Olíufélagið hf. N1 hf. took the initiative to inform the Competition Authority of the existence of the agreement and requested the waiver of any potential fines on the basis of the Competition Authority's rules no. 890/2005 on circumstances leading to the waiver of fines or decisions to reduce fines in cases concerning illegal collusion between undertakings. The other companies subsequently approached the Authority and concluded a settlement with it. N1 hf. met the conditions of the regulations and had its fine in the case cancelled. The other companies concluded the case by settlement with the Competition Authority, agreeing to pay administrative fines totalling 9 million króna and to be subject to conditions with the aim of stimulating competition in markets related to the sale of methane gas.
