Complaint from Ataks Heilsuræktar ehf regarding the City of Akureyri's lease of premises to Vaxtaræktin ehf.

The Competition Authority instructed the Municipality of Akureyri to put the premises in the Akureyri Sports Hall, currently leased by Vaxtarræktin Ltd., out to tender for lease at the end of the current lease term, or earlier, should the lease agreement be terminated before then. The Competition Authority considered this conclusion to be reasonable in light of a previous opinion of the competition council. No. 3/2001, vague responses from the Akureyri municipality regarding the cost-value basis for the rent, as well as uncertainty about the possible continued operation of Vaxtarræktin in its current premises.
