The acquisition by Stjörnugríss Ltd. and Stjörnueggja Ltd. of the real estate and farms of Gjáholt Ltd.

Samkeppniseftirlitið hefur haft til umfjöllunar kaup Stjörnugríss hf. og Stjörnueggja hf. á fasteignum og jörðum Gjáholts ehf. Stjörnugrís starfrækir svínabú og annast jafnframt slátrun svína auk vinnslu og sölu á afurðum. Stjörnuegg starfar við framleiðslu og sölu á eggjum. Gjáholt er fasteignafélag og er megintilgangur þess kaup og sala fasteigna, jarða og lóða. Gjáholt var systurfélag Brúneggja ehf. sem starfaði einnig við framleiðslu á eggjum. Gjáholt tók við rekstri Brúneggja þegar félag Brúneggja var tekið til gjaldþrotaskipta þann 3. mars. 2017.  

Með samrunanum kaupir Stjörnugrís m.a. svínahús að Brautarholti 10, en fyrirtækið Höndlun ehf. hefur umrætt húsnæði til leigu þar sem það starfrækir svínaeldi í samkeppni við Stjörnugrís. Þá kaupa Stjörnuegg húsnæði er hýsir núverandi eggjaframleiðslu Gjáholts að Stafholtsveggjum II og Brautarholti 5. 

Following an investigation and having regard to the evidence, the Competition Authority is of the opinion that the merger will not prevent effective competition in the relevant markets and will not lead to the creation or strengthening of a dominant position. Furthermore, the merger does not otherwise lead to a significant distortion of competition in the market. Therefore, there are no grounds to take action regarding the merger under Article 17(c) of the Competition Act No. 44/2005.
