The acquisition of Basko ehf by Skeljungur hf.

The Competition Authority was reviewing the acquisition of all shares in Basko ehf. by Skeljungur hf. Skeljungur operates primarily in the fuel market and Basko in the grocery market and related markets. In light of Basko's financial situation, the merger parties had previously been granted permission to carry out the merger while it was under review by the Competition Authority.

Following its investigation of the case, the Competition Authority concluded that the merger would neither create a dominant position for the combined company nor strengthen an existing one. Furthermore, there were no indications that Skeljungs' acquisition of Basko would otherwise significantly distort competition. Therefore, there were no grounds for action regarding the merger.
