The decision concerned the purchase by Cargow Iceland ehf. of 100% shares in Thor Shipping ehf.
Cargow Iceland ehf., a subsidiary of Cargow B.V., is a comprehensive freight forwarding company. Thor Shipping ehf. does not own a vessel itself but has access to cargo space on weekly sailings between Iceland and mainland Europe. The company tailors transport and sailing schedules to its clients' needs; any excess capacity, however, is sold to third parties on the general cargo market.
Following an investigation into the merger, the Competition Authority concluded that there was no reason for intervention, as there were no indications that a dominant position was being created or that the merger would otherwise lead to a significant distortion of competition.
