In the decision No. 8/2008 The Competition Authority addressed the merger of JPV útgáfu and Vegamóta ehf., and considered that it could be harmful to competition. The Competition Authority therefore set conditions for the merger, which included the sale by the merged company of certain publishing rights and stock of books. Two sales periods were stipulated for the sale of these assets, the first and the second, with the latter to conclude at the end of 2009. It was stipulated that the Competition Authority could, if deemed necessary, extend the second sales period. In light of the economic situation and having regard to the relatively poor response from book publishers to the sales attempts, the Competition Authority saw no reason to extend the second sales period. The behavioural conditions otherwise imposed on the merger in the decision No. 8/2008 stand unscathed.
