By letter dated 26 May 2006, Stefán Geir Þórisson, Esq., requested that the Competition Authority investigate the subscription offers of the television station Sýn in connection with the 2006 FIFA World Cup. He specifically requested an investigation into whether Sýn's charging was excessive and whether Sýn's offers contained unlawful terms of sale. The Competition Authority considers that the cost basis justified Sýn's set price for the World Cup subscription. Furthermore, the Competition Authority considers that requiring prospective customers to choose between purchasing a subscription for the duration of the World Championship or a longer-term subscription to Sýn did not constitute an unlawful tie. The bundling was considered moderate and the other terms of the offers were otherwise objective. In light of this, the Competition Authority sees no reason to take further action in the matter.
