On 20 April 2007, the Competition Authority received a submission from 365 hf. (365) complained about a contract entered into by the National Broadcasting Service hf. (RÚV) and Árvakur hf. with Capacent Gallup for the conduct and publication of weekly opinion polls on the support for political parties in the run-up to the parliamentary elections. 365 considered that the contract in question was inconsistent with both the provisions of the Competition Act and the provisions of the Act on the National Broadcasting Service Ltd. In the opinion of the Competition Authority, the contract for the creation and publication of the aforementioned opinion polls falls within RÚV's broad public service role. Furthermore, the cooperation between RÚV and Árvakur in this instance is not considered to contravene competition law. Therefore, there are no grounds for the Competition Authority to intervene in the matter.
