Merger of Lyfja and Heilsu hf. and Barkar ehf.

The Competition Authority has been reviewing the merger between Lyf og heilsa hf. (hereinafter "Lyf og heilsa") and Barkar ehf. (hereinafter "Börkur"). The merger was notified via a so-called extended merger filing on 16 January 2018. The merger involves Lyf og heilsa acquiring 100% shares in Börkur. Lyf og heilsa operates pharmacies, but the company also controls Glerverksmiðjan Samverk ehf. (hereinafter Glerverksmiðjan Samverk), which manufactures glass. Börkur is a company that manufactures windows and doors. Following an investigation into the merger, the Competition Authority concluded that there was no reason to take further action regarding the merger under Article 17 of the Competition Act.
