The Competition Authority has been considering an exemption pursuant to Article 15 of the Competition Act no. 44/2005 from Sýn hf. (Sýn), Ríkisútvarpið ohf. (RÚV) and Neyðarlínan ohf. (Neyðarlínan) concerning a proposed collaboration on the development of a telecommunications mast on Úlfarsfell in Reykjavík. The exemption request was accompanied by an agreement on the project, which was signed subject to the approval of the Competition Authority.
Sýn is the name of the joint venture between Vodafone and the combined media operations, which includes, among others, Stöð 2, Stöð 2 Sport, Vísir, Bylgjan, FM957 and X977. The company provides comprehensive telecommunications services, such as fixed-line, mobile, data transmission, television and internet services, alongside its media operations. The company's purpose, according to its articles of association, is telecommunications, media and information technology activities, and other related activities.
RÚV is an independent limited company owned by the state and operates under the provisions of Act No. 23/2013 on the National Broadcasting Service, a public service broadcaster. The role of RÚV is to operate any form of public service broadcasting, such as radio and television, which includes, amongst other things, broadcasting high-quality and diverse programming that reaches all the nation's people, and respecting democratic fundamental principles and human rights, due regard is had to national values, programme selection is based on the needs of as many social groups as possible, impartiality is maintained, support is given to various cultural activities and that a necessary emergency service is maintained. RÚV operates media services under the names RÚV, RÚV2, Rás 1, Rás 2, Rondó and RÚV.is.

The Emergency Line operates the most advanced control centre in the country.
