A bill from the Minister of the Environment, Energy and Climate Change concerning the framework for electricity matters in Iceland is before the Althingi. The Competition Authority is specifically referring to the Bill on amendments to the Electricity Act, No. 65/2003 (electricity trading), parliamentary document 214 – matter 191, which is under consideration by the Industry Committee. The Competition Authority supports the main objectives of the proposed bill and believes that the bill will strengthen the wholesale electricity markets, improve price formation and enhance the monitoring of unlawful conduct.
