Economist position at the Competition Authority now open for applications

The Competition Authority is seeking a strong, full-time economist with a keen interest in competition law. In their role, the successful candidate will work closely with the Chief Economist and the organisation's specialists. Salary is in accordance with the current collective bargaining agreement between the Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs and the relevant trade union.

The Competition Authority monitors competition among businesses in the country's ever-changing business landscape. The Authority prevents undue barriers and restrictions on the freedom to conduct business, works against harmful monopolies and competition-restricting practices, and facilitates the entry of new competitors into the market.

The Competition Authority employs a diverse group of specialists who are passionate about competition issues and excel in their work. The Competition Authority emphasises providing its staff with opportunities to work on exciting projects, develop professionally, and maintain a work-life balance. 

Key responsibilities and duties

  • Analytical work and participation in the drafting of reports and decisions
  • Data collection and statistical analysis
  • The dissemination of economic knowledge in case studies
  • Communication with stakeholders
  • Participation in other dynamic work of the Competition Authority in the field of economics
  • Possibility of participation in international cooperation

Competency requirements

  • University exam in economics
  • A good command of quantitative research methods and the use of software for statistical analysis and data processing.
  • Knowledge of industrial or labour market economics is an advantage.
  • Experience with competition law is an advantage.
  • Good analytical skills and an organised approach to work
  • Proactive problem-solving
  • Communication skills and the ability to work under pressure
  • Ability to express oneself orally and in writing
  • Excellent knowledge of Icelandic and English
