
The Competition Authority is inviting applications for the position of Chief Economist. Valur Þráinsson, who has worked at the Authority since 2010 and has served as Chief Economist since autumn 2018, has decided to leave his post later this year.

More about the role of the Chief Economist
The Chief Economist has professional responsibility for the economic research and analysis within the Competition Authority, and ensures that the methods applied are rigorous and based on a sound economic foundation. To this end, he contributes to the development and advancement of economic knowledge within the Authority and provides professional guidance to economists.
The Chief Economist is an active participant in prioritising projects, managing work, and making decisions on the substantive conclusions of investigations. He also liaises and collaborates with the academic community, both at home and abroad, and participates in international cooperation, including within the EEA/EU, OECD and the Nordic supervisory authorities.
The Competition Authority employs a strong team of economists. As Chief Economist, Valur Þráinsson has led efforts to enhance the economic work of the Competition Authority and strengthen ongoing and robust cooperation with academia and sister authorities in Europe. There are many opportunities for further strengthening ahead.
