The Competition Authority is investigating the merger of Samkaup hf. and Atlagi ehf. (Heimkaup) but the merger notification was received on 18 March. Both companies operate in the grocery market, with Samkaup operating, among others, the Nettó, Kjörbúðin and Krambúðin stores, while Heimkaup operates, among others, the Prís, Heimkaup and Extra stores.

The merger parties requested a commitment authorisation to carry out the merger while it is under investigation. The Competition Authority granted that authorisation on 20 March.
All stakeholders and other interested parties are hereby given the opportunity to submit their views on the merger., as regards its possible effects on competition, the situation in the grocery market, and other matters that the companies address in the merger filing.
Reviews sent to gogn@samkeppni.is and due to statutory deadlines in merger matters, they must be received no later than Wednesday, 2nd April.
