Specialist in Media and Public Relations at the Competition Authority

The Competition Authority is looking for a motivated and driven individual for a new position as a Communications and Public Relations Specialist. The role involves responsibility, oversight and management of the Competition Authority's promotional, guidance and web matters, as well as participating in the implementation of digital solutions and various development projects. The role also involves close collaboration with the management and staff of the Competition Authority.

Key responsibilities and duties:

  • Formulation of policy regarding the Competition Authority's mediation, educational and promotional material
  • Material design, copywriting and image editing
  • Management of the Competition Authority's website and social media
  • Planning and execution of events
  • Participation in the implementation of digital solutions, development and improvement projects
  • Service and communication with partners, the media, and users of digital solutions
  • Assisting the management and staff of the Competition Authority with a wide range of tasks.
  • Participation in international cooperation

Educational and competency requirements:

  • University education that is useful in the job
  • A strong emphasis is placed on a good command of Icelandic, both spoken and written.
  • Experience and knowledge of promotional matters and media
  • Experience and knowledge of web management and social media
  • Experience in public relations is an advantage.
  • Accuracy, organisational skills, initiative and a systematic approach to work.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team
  • Excellent command of English and knowledge of at least one Scandinavian language.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills are essential.

The Competition Authority is tasked with enforcing competition law, which includes publishing rulings of general significance, advise market participants, point out ways to the government to make competition more effective and otherwise act as an advocate for the interests that competition law is intended to protect. The Competition Authority enjoys independence in these tasks, but there are also requirements for extensive reporting. A Communications and Public Affairs Specialist is responsible for managing these tasks and also for contributing to the development of the competition authority in line with best practice in neighbouring countries.

The Competition Authority employs a diverse and multidisciplinary team of experts who are passionate about competition issues. The Competition Authority emphasises providing its staff with opportunities to work on exciting projects, develop in their careers and maintain a work-life balance.
