Merger of the Free Pension Fund and the Pension Fund of the Icelandic Dental Association – consultation process

The Competition Authority is handling the merger of Frjálsi Pension Fund and the Pension Fund of the Icelandic Dental Association.

The Frjálsi Pension Fund and the Pension Fund of the Icelandic Dental Association are pension funds operating in accordance with Act No. 129/1997 on the compulsory insurance of pension rights and the activities of pension funds. The funds' activities consist of receiving contributions, safeguarding and investing members' assets, and paying pensions, in addition to which the Frjálsi Pension Fund provides its members with mortgages.

The merger notification concerning the merger of Frjálsi Pension Fund and the Pension Fund of the Icelandic Dental Association, in which the notifiers describe the merger and competition from the perspective of the pension funds, is available here.

All stakeholders and interested parties are hereby given the opportunity to submit views regarding this merger., for example, on the potential impact of the merger on competition regarding the reception and return of pension savings, the provision of mortgages to fund members, the conditions in the relevant markets and other matters that the pension funds address in the merger notification, or matters that a consultee may wish to raise in relation to the merger.

Reviews should be sent by email to gogn@samkeppni.is and due to statutory deadlines in merger matters, they must be received no later than Monday, 9th March.
