
The Danish Competition Authority hosted a well-attended and successful conference in Copenhagen this week, which addressed challenges in competition law. Margrethe Vestager, Vice-President of the European Commission, attended the event and delivered the opening address.
Páll Gunnar Pálsson, CEO of the Competition Authority, gave a speech and took part in a panel discussion about the challenges ahead in digital markets. Worldwide, governments are now considering strengthening the powers of competition authorities, in order to protect the interests of the public and businesses from the benefits of effective competition in digital markets.
The Danish government has announced plans to strengthen the market investigation powers of the country's competition authority. The meeting discussed, among other things, the powers of the British, Icelandic and Norwegian authorities which could be used in this regard.
