By decision No. 1/2024 are the conditions set in connection with the merger of Ferðaskrifstofa Íslands ehf. and Heimsferða ehf., pursuant to a decision No. 10/2022 , Purchase of the operations of Heimsferðir ehf by Íslands ferðaskrifstofa ehf. The decision was based on an agreement made by the merging parties with the Competition Authority on 22 April 2022.
In light of the uncertainty regarding market developments during the investigation period, the settlement provided for its review. This involved the parties agreeing that the Competition Authority could make changes to the wholesale terms and conditions to the benefit of resellers, should it become apparent that the agreement and its terms were not achieving their objectives. On the other hand, the authority was also prepared to waive the wholesale conditions if and when it became apparent that they were not needed.
The decision annuls the provisions of the settlement concerning the merged company's wholesale obligations for seats on its aircraft. Based on experience, it is now clear that the company's competitors have not taken advantage of this opportunity. Furthermore, changes appear to have occurred in the market, which consist mainly of increased flight capacity from scheduled airlines, reducing the relevance of the conditions.
The terms of the settlement concerning the independence of the Icelandic Tourist Board and its ownership links with competitors remain in force.
