
The Competition Authority is investigating the merger of Orkan IS ehf. (Lyfjaval, Löður etc., a subsidiary of Skel investment company) and Samkaup hf., after a satisfactory merger notification was received on 10 June.
Orkan operates mainly in the fuel, pharmacy and other markets, while Samkaup is in the grocery market and operates, among others, the Nettó, Kjörbúðin and Krambúðin chains. The Competition Authority had also previously approved the merger of Samkaup and the Prís, Heimkaup and Extra stores through the company Atlaga ehf.

All interested parties are hereby given the opportunity to submit views regarding the merger, such as its potential effects on competition, the conditions in the relevant markets, and other matters addressed by the companies in the merger filing.
Reviews sent to gogn@samkeppni.is and due to statutory deadlines in merger matters, they shall to be received no later than Wednesday, 25th June.
If the comments contain confidential information, it is important to state this and also send a copy of the comments without the confidential information.
The merger parties requested an authorisation to carry out the merger while it is under investigation. The Competition Authority granted that authorisation today, 16 June.
