Recently, the Competition Authority has seen an increase in merger notifications, announcements of forthcoming notifications, and enquiries about preliminary discussions concerning corporate mergers.
Due to busy periods, staff summer holidays and insufficient funding, it is foreseeable that the processing and review of new merger notifications will be delayed at the Competition Authority this summer.
This situation is expected to continue until mid-August. The same applies to merger cases at the pre-notification stage. It is therefore unlikely that the Competition Authority will be able to accommodate requests for new pre-notification discussions or for the continuation of pre-notification discussions for mergers during the same period.
The Competition Authority considers it appropriate to inform companies and their advisers of this, so that they can take the above into account and make appropriate arrangements.
The above does not affect ongoing investigations into statutory time limits. Merger matters and their status may see here.
