In recent weeks, the Competition Authority has seen a rapid increase in merger notifications, announcements of forthcoming notifications, and enquiries about possible preliminary discussions regarding corporate mergers.
Due to the regulator's heavy workload, combined with insufficient funding and staff summer holidays, it is foreseeable that the review of new merger notifications and investigations into new merger filings will be delayed this summer. This situation is expected to continue until mid-August. The same applies to new merger cases at the pre-notification stage. During this period, the Competition Authority will also be unable to accommodate requests for new merger pre-notification meetings.
The Competition Authority considers it appropriate to inform companies and their advisers of this, so that they can take appropriate measures.
The above does not affect ongoing investigations and the statutory time limits for them. Merger cases and their status can be viewed here .
