The Competition Authority has ruled that the National Library for the Blind of Iceland must separate its operations into two distinct financial entities: the library's core activities on the one hand, and its production and distribution of audiobooks for the general market under the company name Orð í eyra on the other. The Orð í eyra operation run by the Blind Book Library competes with private companies that produce and distribute audiobooks to the general market. The Competition Authority considers that, as things stand, th.e. unless the activities of the National Library for the Blind that receive public funding are financially separated from the publishing and distribution of audiobooks to the general market, this will distort competition in the general market for the publishing and sale of audiobooks.
