In light of media coverage of today's actions, the Competition Authority would like to make the following statement:
The Competition Authority has today carried out searches at the offices of Teymi hf., Vodafone – Og fjarskipta ehf. and Tal – IP-fjarskipta ehf. The searches were authorised by orders from the Reykjavík District Court.
The searches are part of the Competition Authority's investigation into these companies' alleged breaches of the Competition Authority's decision. No. 36/2008. That decision stipulated conditions for the merger of Hive and Sko, which now operate under the Telja brand. Those conditions were aimed at ensuring the competitive independence of Tal and that full and unfettered competition exists between, among others, Tal and Vodafone, which is owned by Teymir hf. The investigation also concerns the companies' alleged breaches of the competition law prohibition on anti-competitive collusion.
The investigation is based on information and data that the Competition Authority has obtained in recent weeks.
The Competition Authority will expedite this investigation as much as possible. At this stage, the Competition Authority is not providing any further information about the investigation.
