In light of today's media coverage of the Competition Authority's actions, it is appropriate to make the following statement:
The Competition Authority has today carried out searches of the offices of Fóðurblöndan hf. and Mjólkurfélag Reykjavíkur hf. The searches were authorised by a ruling from the Reykjavík District Court.
The searches are part of the Competition Authority's investigation into alleged breaches of competition law by these companies. The investigation is primarily concerned with the companies' possible price-fixing in the feed market, i.e. the market for the production and sale of ruminant, pig and poultry feed. Conduct in the fertiliser market is also under review.
The investigation is based on information and data obtained by the Competition Authority. The Competition Authority will expedite the investigation as far as possible. At this stage, the Competition Authority is not providing any further information about the investigation.
