The Economic Crimes Department of the National Commissioner of Police has today, in connection with an investigation into alleged illegal collusion between Byko and Húsasmiðjan hf., arrested and taken in for further questioning fifteen managers and employees of the companies, and one employee has been summoned for further questioning.
The current actions are a continuation of the searches of the premises of Byko hf., Húsasmiðjan hf. and Úlfurinn, which took place on 8 March, and the subsequent interrogations.
The investigation concerns alleged breaches of the competition law prohibition on collusion between competitors regarding, amongst other things, prices, tendering and the division of markets. The Economic Crime Department's investigation focuses on alleged offences by the companies' employees and is based on a complaint from the Competition Authority, while offences by the companies themselves are investigated by the police following a complaint from the Authority. Parallel to the police investigation into the alleged offences by the companies' employees, the Competition Authority is investigating possible breaches by the companies concerned of the ban on illegal collusion, offences which can result in, amongst other things, administrative fines for the companies. The actions are being carried out in cooperation with the Competition Authority.
