Representatives from the EFTA Surveillance Authority (ESA) recently visited the Competition Authority. Lectures were given to the staff of the Competition Authority on the work of the EFTA Surveillance Authority and the application of Articles 53 and 54 of the Agreement on the European Economic Area, which are almost identical to Articles 10 and 11 of the Competition Act. The powers of the Competition Authority to apply the prohibition provisions of Articles 53 and 54 of the Agreement, and the cooperation between the two institutions in such matters, were also reviewed. Then, Páll Gunnar Pálsson, Director of the Competition Authority, gave a presentation to representatives of the ESA on the Authority's main current projects.
The visit was considered a great success and was mutually beneficial. It is hoped that the cooperation and relations between ESA and the Competition Authority will consequently become even better and closer.
