The Competition Authority and the Municipality of Kópavogur have entered into a settlement, dated 5 December, regarding the municipality's leasing of premises for the operation of fitness centres in conjunction with the sale of annual passes for the municipality's swimming pools. The annual passes were sold to the fitness centre's customers at a significant discount from the standard price. The leased premises are part of the Kópavogur swimming pool facilities, namely the Kópavogur Swimming Pool on Borgarholtsbraut and the Salalaug at the Kópavogur Sports Centre on Versali. The settlement, among other things, stipulates that the Municipality of Kópavogur shall put the premises in question out to tender on the market and sell customers of the fitness centres access to the swimming pools and bathing facilities at a price, which shall not be lower than the lowest fee available to general swimming pool visitors when they purchase an individual admission.
