The state broadcaster's lunchtime news today covered the letter from the Association of Fish Producers and Exporters (SFÚ) to the Competition Authority regarding the sector's competitive disadvantage. The report mentions that the Ministry of Fisheries and Agriculture had demanded that the Competition Authority reject the request for investigation and proceedings. Furthermore, it is stated that ten months later, the association had received no response from the Competition Authority as to whether the matter was under investigation.
Accordingly, the Competition Authority wishes to confirm that the above-mentioned submission from the Association of Fish Producers and Exporters is under consideration by the Authority. The submission was sent to numerous parties for comment. Subsequently, the Association of Fish Producers was provided with copies of the comments received by the Authority, and was also asked for its views on the comments received. The association's submissions were received at the end of September last year. The Competition Authority has reviewed the submissions and will shortly take a position on the matter. The case has been delayed due to a heavy workload.
