On 27 September, the Ministry of Industry and Innovation, the Competition Authority and the Competition Appeals Board will hold an international conference under the title „The future isn't what it used to be“– 20 years of Competition Law and the Challenges Ahead.
The conference's keynote speaker is Angel Gurría, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Angel Gurría has led the OECD since 2006, having previously served as Mexico's Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Finance. More information about Angel Gurría.
At the conference, around 30 international and domestic individuals from politics, business, academia and the civil service will discuss competition policy in a small economy and the challenges that lie ahead. In the morning, topics will include how to improve market efficiency and the situation following the global financial crisis. Four afternoon workshops will address competition in public services, the deterrent effect of fines in competition law breaches, the enforcement of competition law in the telecommunications market, and the economic recovery following the banking collapse.
