Today, Friday 16 March, an agreement was concluded between Denmark, Iceland and Norway which strengthens the ability of the countries' competition authorities to increase cooperation. The agreement strengthens the authorities' ability to combat illegal collusion between companies and other harmful restrictions on competition. The most important aspect of the agreement is that the competition authorities can exchange confidential information in cases where there are common interests. This also applies to merger cases.
Competition authorities in the Nordic countries are often dealing with the same issues – that is why increased cooperation is necessary.
„We have confirmed that there is a need for increased cooperation in order to combat illegal corporate collusion more effectively. This is particularly true of cartels that take place in more than one Nordic country. The authorities must therefore be able to coordinate the handling of cases and the enforcement of competition rules in such matters,“ say the directors-general of the competition authorities in the three countries.
