In June 2013 The Competition Authority launched a market investigation into the Icelandic fuel market. but the investigation involves examining whether action needs to be taken against situations or conduct that prevent, restrict or have a harmful effect on competition to the detriment of the public. In connection with the investigation, the Competition Authority issued research plan which set out plans for the organisation and scope of the investigation. It stated that in the first half of 2014, the Competition Authority expected that The regulator's information gathering and assessment of the data would be completed, and a so-called preliminary assessment report would be published.
Due to a more extensive information gathering than originally planned, as well as other events, delays to the original schedule are foreseeable. Consequently, the Competition Authority has issued an updated timetable in accordance with Article 4(e) of the rules. No. 490/2013. According to the updated timetable, the Authority's data collection and assessment is expected to be completed by the end of 2014, and a preliminary assessment report will be published in the first half of 2015. This will set out a draft conclusion of the market investigation. Should the Competition Authority deem it necessary to exercise its powers under Article 16 of the Competition Act, this will be done by issuing a separate notice of objections, in accordance with Chapters III and IV of the aforementioned rules. No. 490/2013.
