On 30 November, the Competition Authority published a preliminary assessment report in connection with an ongoing market investigation into the fuel market. It provides a detailed discussion of the market conditions and practices, and possible measures to remove barriers to competition. The preliminary assessment report is part of a market investigation into whether, and if so which, barriers to competition exist in the fuel market.
The Competition Authority requested that views and comments on the report be submitted to the authority no later than Friday, 19 February. Stakeholders have requested an extension of time to submit substantiated views. For this reason, the Competition Authority has extended the deadline by 3 weeks, to Friday, 11 March.
It is intended that the views submitted will be published on the Competition Authority's website. It is therefore important that those submitting views identify which information in them they consider to be confidential. In such cases, it is requested that two copies be sent: one without confidential information (to be published on the Competition Authority's website) and the other with confidential information (not to be published). The Competition Authority encourages interested parties to take this opportunity to submit their views.
Further information about the study can be found at information page on the matter.
