The Competition Authority has been considering an application from Lyfjaauðkenni ehf. for an exemption from Article 10 of the Competition Act, concerning the cooperation of pharmaceutical companies in establishing and operating the company. The purpose of the company is to set up and operate a medicinal product database, which aims to prevent the distribution of counterfeit medicines and is based on Directive 2011/62/EU of the European Parliament and of the Council and subsequent acts. These regulations have not been transposed into Icelandic law. The association's activities were considered to contravene the prohibition in Article 10 of the Competition Act. Pursuant to Article 15 of the Competition Act, an exemption was granted subject to certain conditions.
