The Traffic Authority has abused its market-dominant position vis-à-vis Skýrr and thereby breached competition law.

The Competition Authority has reached the conclusion in its decision No. 10/2005 that the Road Administration has abused its dominant market position in the market for the provision of information from the vehicle register and thereby infringed competition law in the following manner:

• By refusing Skýrr access to the vehicle register to disseminate information from the register in a specified manner
• With a restrictive offer to lawyers
• By unlawful coercion in negotiations with Skýrr about the resale of information

In the decision, the Competition Authority stipulates that the Road Administration shall provide companies that request it with access to the vehicle register, enabling them to provide their customers with the same service as the Road Administration. provided that technical and security requirements are met. Financial separation is also stipulated between the competitive operations of the Traffic Authority and the institution's statutory functions.
