The Reykjavík District Court has ruled that Síminn hf. must pay 111 million króna in damages, plus costs, to the companies Tölvunar ehf., Snerpu ehf. and Hringiðjunnar ehf. sued Síminn for having caused them damage in the Internet service market between 2005 and 2007.
The matter dates back to 2012 when the Competition Authority sent a letter of objections to Síminn concerning the alleged abuse of a dominant position in the telecommunications market. The case was later settled by an agreement between Síminn and the Competition Authority, see decision no. 6/2013 ( Decision no. 6/2015 ), which involved extensive changes to the structure of the Telecommunications Group and other measures to strengthen competition in the telecommunications market.
Following the settlement, Hringiðan, Snerpa and Tölvun sued Síminn for damages based on the Competition Authority's statement of objections. The district court found that the companies in question had suffered damages, and The Phone Company was ordered to pay 111 million króna in compensation, as previously stated.
