The Competition AuthorityThe Competition Authority has now signed an agreement with the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Iceland regarding the placement of students at the Authority. The placement is intended to enhance the student's knowledge and skills.

Valur Þráinsson, Chief Economist of the Competition Authority, was pleased with the agreement and said: „The Competition Authority places great emphasis on maintaining good links between the institution, academics and students. This collaboration gives students at the Faculty of Business Administration at the University of Iceland the opportunity to gain insight into the work of the Competition Authority and to work on exciting projects that enhance their ability to apply an economic approach in their studies and careers. Furthermore, the internship is an excellent opportunity for students to better understand their own areas of interest, thereby helping them to find a suitable postgraduate course. We look forward to welcoming students from the Faculty of Business and Economics.“

Ásta Dís Óladóttir, an Associate Professor in the School of Business, was pleased to add the Competition Authority to the impressive group of companies and organisations that will offer third-year business students the opportunity to apply for an internship next winter, and said: „I agree with what Valur says; it is very important for students to gain an insight into the work of institutions such as the Competition Authority. What the staff of the authority do and why. The reason I mention this is that the authority has been widely covered in the media over the years, and people have had various opinions on its working practices and case outcomes. For me personally, it was a very educational time serving on the board of the Competition Authority at the time; I gained a completely different perspective on many things and understood various decisions better,” said Ásta Dís Óladóttir, an associate professor in the School of Business.
