The significance of effective competition in Icelandic business life

Í dag hefur Samkeppniseftirlitið birt rit nr. 1/2021 þar sem teknar hafa verið saman rannsóknir um áhrif samkeppni á ýmsa hagræna þætti sem mörgum er kunnugt um, s.s. á framleiðni, nýsköpun og hagvöxt, en einnig er fjallað um áhrif samkeppni á aðra þætti sem alla jafna er ekki rætt jafn mikið um, s.s. fæðuöryggi, ójöfnuð og atvinnustig.

Mikilvægt er að virk samkeppni ríki á sem flestum sviðum atvinnulífsins. Meginþorri hagfræðikenninga styður þannig eindregið það mat að samkeppni í viðskiptum sé mjög æskileg þar sem hún auki velferð neytenda og stuðli að hagkvæmni í atvinnulífinu. Nánar tiltekið er virk samkeppni m.a. talin stuðla að eftirfarandi:

· Að neytendur fái vörur og þjónustu á sem lægstu verði.

· Auknu vöruframboði og betri þjónustu.

· Auknu hagræði í rekstri, minni sóun og betri stjórnun fyrirtækja.

· Nýsköpun og framförum í atvinnurekstri.

· Þjóðhagslegri hagkvæmni í efnahagslífinu (ábati neytenda og framleiðenda) og aukinni samkeppnishæfni.

· Hraðari endurreisn á krepputímum.

· Minni ójöfnuði.

· Minna atvinnuleysi.

Vegna allra þessara jákvæðu áhrifa er ljóst að mikið er í húfi fyrir neytendur, viðskiptavini fyrirtækja og svo samkeppnishæfni íslensks efnahagslífs að virk samkeppni ríki.

Ritinu er ætlað að vera innlegg í umræðu um þýðingu virkrar samkeppni í íslensku atvinnulífi. Gera má ráð fyrir því að ritið verði uppfært með hliðsjón af nýjustu upplýsingum og rannsóknum hverju sinni.
