One of the functions of the Competition Authority is to observe that measures taken by public authorities do not restrict competition, and to indicate to the authorities any means by which competition can be made more effective and the entry of new competitors to the market facilitated. If the Competition Authority is of the opinion that any provisions of law or administrative provisions are contrary to the objectives of the competition act and are detrimental to free competition in trade, it also has to inform the minister. In such cases the Competition Authority also notifies the public, e.g. by news releases to the public media. These opinions are also published in Icelandic here on the webpage.
