
Þann 27. september sl. hélt Samkeppniseftirlitið alþjóðlega ráðstefnu um samkeppnismál á Radisson-Hótel Sögu, í samstarfi við iðnaðar- og viðskiptaráðherra og áfrýjunarnefnd samkeppnismála. Ráðstefnan bar titilinn „The Future Ain‘t What it Used to Be – 20 Years og Competition Law and the Challenges Ahead“. Ráðstefnan var fjölsótt, en þátttakendur voru tæplega 400 talsins. Á ráðstefnunni fjölluðu um 30 erlendir og innlendir einstaklingar úr stjórnmálum, atvinnulífinu, fræðasamfélaginu og stjórnkerfinu um samkeppnismál í litlu hagkerfi og þær áskoranir sem við blasa. Um morguninn var meðal annars fjallað um hvernig unnt sé að bæta skilvirkni markaða og stöðuna eftir hina alþjóðlegu fjármálakreppu. Á fjórum vinnustofum eftir hádegi var fjallað um samkeppni í opinberri þjónustu, varnaðaráhrif sekta í samkeppnislagabrotum, framkvæmd samkeppnislaga á fjarskiptamarkaði og endurreisn efnahagslífsins í kjölfar bankahrunsins.
Aðalfyrirlesari ráðstefnunnar var Angel Gurría framkvæmdastjóri Efnahags- og framfarastofnunarinnar (OECD), en hann hefur stýrt Efnahags- og framfarastofnuninni frá árinu 2006.
Ný skýrsla Samkeppniseftirlitsins um samkeppnisaðstæður á Íslandi var kynnt á ráðstefnunni, en hún ber heitið „Er týndi áratugurinn framundan?“ – Öflug samkeppni læknar stöðnun.“ Hér má finna ýmis gögn sem tengjast ráðstefnunni:
